Web Rep for Chrome

I had IE for a long time and WebRep worked fine, but I just downloaded Chrome and installed the plug in for webrep, closed chrome and reopened it, but it doesnt show up on chrome and it doenst show up in the extensions either.

Please try this,

Avast UI → Additional Protection → Webrep → Uninstall the webrep by clicking the uninstall link next to Chrome.

Then restart your computer.

After that try to reinstall it in the same way.

Avast UI → Additional Protection → Webrep → install the webrep by clicking the install link next to chrome.

Again restart the computer and Check it.

If you don’t have the option for uninstall and reinstall. Just go for avast repair option

For repairing avast!.

You can do it by going into

Control Panel → Programs and Features → avast! software → Repair.

Reboot the machine and try.

Thanks

Hi Stevepac
I have the same problem, downloaded Chrome last night version 16.0.912.63
Don’t know if you are interested or not i installed wot and it is working okay.

Hi iYogisolutions1
I tried both suggestions from above using Avast UI and doing a repair using add remove .
Still no webrep.

cheers

Hi,

Please try to reinstall avast! from scratch.

  1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
You can download it from http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear.exe
  2. Download the latest avast! version that you have purchased and save it.
3.Run the avast! Uninstall Utility in safe mode and restart to Normal mode. (Run the tool two or three times by selecting the respective folder)
  3. Install avast! using the setup saved
  4. Check the status and post back with the results.

Hi
Did the above, made no difference still no WebRep.
I will just use Chrome with out WebRep, as it is not critical.

Thanks iYogisolutions1 for your input.
I also use IE8, FireFox 9.0.1 and WEbRep works fine, with these 2 browsers.
Cheers

Absolutly no problem with WebRep on Chrome.

I would not use WOT though.

The avast! WebRep plugin may not be installed in Chrome. So try to do this.

Chrome → Settings(a spanner shaped button on top right corner) → Options → Extentions

Check that avast! WebRep plugin is enabled or not. Try to enable it and update us back.

Hi YoKenny
Glad WebRep is working for you.
I have used wot from just about when it was released, and i find it okay.

There is no Webrep plugin showing at all.

It is Christmas Eve here so i would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.

Cheers

Do as iYogisolutions1 recommends.

I to have a problem making WebRep appear. I have yet to get it to appear, yet on my girlfriend’s computer it appeared just fine when I installed it on hers yesterday. Could it be that XP has a problem using WebRep? Thats the only difference between hers and mine. I prefer XP and she got Windows 7. Its not critical that I get it working but it would be nice to be able to explore all of Avast!s features. I recently switched to it from AVG.

There is no problem with WebRep on XP as that is where I am posting this from now.

I prefer Windows 7 over XP though.

Hmmm. My second thought was maybe the theme’s code could be messing with something, on some random off chance. Tested it, obviously wasn’t it. I wonder what could be making it not work correctly if the suggested solutions haven’t worked.

Are you running chrome in the sandbox?

I’ve just noticed that if I run chrome in the sandbox webrep doesn’t load properly. If I click the mouse where it should be I see a message saying that webpage could’t be found.

Outside the sandbox it works fine.

Have a good Christmas everybody.

I don’t know about the other guy, but for me chrome isn’t in sandbox x-x. Maybe it is just a random bug.

Hi
As in my posts i have already done what iYogisolutions1 has requested.

Cheers

How rude of me not to reply. Went away for a little while sorry.

I uninstalled the plug in, restarted, re-install, restarted, and nothing changed.
Repaired Avast, nothing changed.
Re-installed Avast, nothing changed.
I am not running it in sandbox.
It does not appear in the extensions area in Options. I dont know how to make it appear, I hit Load Unpacked Extension and went to where WebRep was located and it was just a folder so it didnt work.

So is WebRep now working in Google Chrome ???

He stated before that it wasn’t working when he tried the solutions so I am assuming no. So that makes three people here that can’t get WebRep working x-x.

No it is not working.

  1. Open folder C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\WebRep\Chrome
  2. Find file AswWebRepChrome.crx
  3. Drag it on Google Chrome icon.
