Web Scanner Issue

Hi,

I have a new system I have built, with everything connected correctly.
Spec: GigaByte GA-K8N-SLI motherboard
AMD x2 3800+
2 GB Geil 3200 Value Dual Core RAM
256MB BFG 7800 OC Graphics Card
80 GB SATA II Hitachi Deskstar hard disk.

My problem seems to be that when I have the AVAST home edition, web scanner enabled it causes a Blue Screen Stop error, while accessing the internet. When this is disabled the computer seems to work fine and I can use the internet no problem.

I have tried updating AVAST to the latest version along with uninstalling and reinstalling the latest version rather than just updating, however I still get the same problem.

I was wondering if anybody else had come across this issue before?

Thanks

Which is your operational system?
Which firewall do you use?
What is the error message or the numbers of the blue screen crash?

Do you have ZoneAlarm 6.x installed on your machine?

I am running Windows XP and the latest version of Zone Alarm (free edition).

I know about some conflicts with AVAST and Zone Alarm, but thought the issues were with Zone Alarm Pro and the privacy blocker. I previously had both installed on my last system, working exactly the same with no problems.

Wasn’t sure if it was an issue of compatabiliy with the new components and AVAST. The blue stop screen errors seemed to suggest memory issues (can’t remember exactly as it is with a friend looking at it for me.), however as previously stated, the PC seems to work fine in safe mode and fine booting normally then disabling the web scanner.

Any suggestions would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks

If you use ZoneAlarm 6 and suffer from memory corruption related blue screens occurring during browsing (WebShield and possibly other applications) you are probably hit by their latest critical bug in the driver.

We already have a patched copy of Zone Alarm driver that solves it but we are not allowed to distribute it to the wide public. If you will send to my email or to Vlk some of your minidumps (memory dumps created during blue screen crashes - should be store in c:\windows\minidump*.dmp) we might provide you with the updated copy of the ZoneAlarm driver and instructions how to replace it.

We also encourage you to address this issue to ZoneAlarm support, maybe that might shorten the time they are waiting with the official release.
