Web Sheild blocks most sites.

New install. When Web Sheild is on the only sites I can open are my banks website, MSN and other sites say “No Connection”.

what AV did you use before avast?
did you uninstall it before installing avast?

Sounds more like the web shield (avastSvc.exe) is being blocked rather than the other way round. I believe the reason you can get to those other sites is that you are using HTTPS to connect to them.

Over and above Pondus’s questions:
What is your operating system and firewall ?
Does it allow avastSvc.exe internet access ?

  • If it does delete the entry for it and reconnect to the internet, this should force the firewall to ask permission again.

Trend, no I didn’t uninstall until later. I switched some of the settings for the web shield and it started working when I turned the web sheild back on. I reinstalled my router and got the network back. Did that first.
