Web Shield and Zone Alarm

Have just reinstalled Avast Home and followed instructions for use with Zone Alarm but… I cannot change LAN settings for Proxy Server as Address field and Port field remain highlighted and will not allow me to enter anything. As I am not sure about Web shield is my computer at risk? In Zone Alarm I have checked all the Avast boxes to allow full access. Can anyone advise ? Jim

Hi Eddy, I have followed those instructions but cannot fill in any boxes (Address Field or Port) as they are not open and nothing can be entered. As far as I can see everything semms to be OK but how can I tell? How do I know if Zne Alarm privacy is on? Jim

Hi cleepops .
We need some more information.
1. Are you using ZoneAlarm free, or Pro .?
2.What operating sytem are you using ?
3.What Browser are you using?

I advise you to check the ZoneAlarm Tutorial by clicking Flash Tutorial button on the overview page. ( Right click the ZA icon in your task tray, near the time , and click on “Restore ZoneAlarm control center”. On that page in the top right corner is the button for the tutorial) Familiarise yourself with ZA and the terms and settings.

If you have Avast! icon in your tray, also double click on it! You’ll find the on access control. See if the Web shield is working by clicking the WEB SHIELD ICON, on the left of the panel, at the bottom. If it’s o.k. / ON, there will be some http:// **** references in the body of the page.
The Link that Eddy gave you has easy instructions to enable your browser, which is all your trying to achieve. The webshield scans content from the Internet before it gets to your browser, therefore stopping Viruses before they even get near to your system.
Please also read the Avast! HELP concerning the WEBSHIELD .
Start>All programs>Avast! anti-virus> Help.
Open the topic " Resident protection " , Web Shield is there, at the bottom of the list. The web shield is EXTRA protection, apart from the normal resident protection, so NO your not at great risk if it isn’t running. Of course it’s better if it is though.
If your using FireFox browser maybe this picture will help.
