Web Shield Blocks Internet in Vista Build 5270

I am testing WIndows Vista and currently running build 5270. I installed avast 4.6.744 and am running it in Demo mode. I am connected through a cable modem and a LinkSys BEFSR41 wired router.

I find that I can access my LAN, newsgroups, email but not the Internet. (I have been able to connect to the MS beta website but it take forever to connect.) Bypassing the router makes no difference. >:(

Someone suggested turning off Web Shield. I did that and the Internet is now working. I would like to be protected but not being connected is not my idea of protection.

Are there some settings that need to be tweaked in order to be protected and still get to the Internet?

TIA
Walter

Avast is currently not Vista compatible. The internals of avast will change considerably for Vista. The timeframe of the public release of Vista-compatible avast is roughly April/May (still we ahead of the official Vista RTM).

I suppose this will be avast 5, won’t it?
Will the Pro license allow to update from version 4 to 5? I remember some years ago when there were versions (major ones, not builds) updates from McAfee they ask for buying a new, full license to upgrade :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t think so.

Yes, it will (when it happens). Or, if it won’t, you’ll be able to somehow acquire a replacement license key.

Hey… you’re taking the version update very hard… What should be increased that much in code to have a new version of avast. If the support of a new operational system is not enough, well, we’ll have the avast 5 only when it becomes a bloatware suite ;D
Maybe, it’s the opposite, I mean, we’ll have the version 5 soon, before Vista implementation 8)
