ever since the update, the sites i visit reguarly have been unable to load or end up in an incomplete load with 90% done. now i’ve found out if i unchecked the box marked ‘use intelligent stream scanning’ it would make it only slightly better but still an incomplete load. i want to use this feature but at the same time be able to surf sites, how do i fix?
Hi iAmShaD3,
We need a little more info please:
What OS?
What browser?
What websites won’t work/load?

And, most importantly, what firewall?
OS: Windows XP Pro Sp2
equipped with FireFox and Internet Explorer. (both are effected.)
ex: www.di.fm only a portion of the site will appear, never complete.
firewall: Zone Alarms professional.
and yes, i allowed my ZA to accept Avast! web scanner’s into my firewall.
I have had similar problems with W2k, Firefox and Sygate.
I have only tried a few sites (e.g. Google)and WebShield was using 98% cpu and not retrieving any pages.
I set up the proxy configuration (not supposed to be needed on W2k), and although that did return the Google page, cpu was still 98%+.
I tried an uninstall/re-installl but no difference, so I have stopped WebShield.
Any ideas?

About ZA and avast, there is more information here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=11486.0
I’m having the same problem, even after reading the instructions & following the directions for Zone Alarm users. I had to turn off Web Shield to get things to work temporarily.
Windows XP Pro sp2
Firefox & IE both having problems
Zone Alarm Pro
it’s always been Medium setting :[
I read elsewhere on here from Technical to try changing the Avast proxy setting from “Auto-detect” to “No proxy” (if not connected to the internet via a proxy).
Double click the avast icon on your desktop > menu > settings > update (basic) > details > proxy > choose direct connect (no proxy).
Things are now working for me with the Avast web shield active.
I don’t know if this is appropriate here or not, but I thought I’d just mention that I’ve been using Firefox on XP Pro SP2 for months perfectly happily. Last week, Avast decided to update itself. And immediately thereafter, Firefox began reporting repeated ‘403 Forbidden’ HTML errors more or less at random whenever I try to visit all sorts of perfectly kosher sites (the BBC, for example; the Economist; Sydney Morning Herald etc etc etc.). If I clicked the refresh button repeated, then most times the page would eventually load, though not always.
Oddly, Internet Explorer was not affected by this at all (never once reporting a 403. I uninstalled Firefox, in case it had become corrupted. I re-installed: same problem. I installed the Firefox 1.01 upgrade… same problem. I installed Opera 7, and that reported no problems at all, just like IE.
I suppose it could just have been coincidence that the Firefox-specific 403 problems started straight after the Avast update, but it’s unlikely. Particularly since, having read the other posts here, I just disabled the Web Scanner… and no more 403 errors!!
Any idea what is going on? Avast version = 4.6-603. Firefox 1.01. Opera 7.53 build 3850. XP Service Pack 2. I happen also to connect from a laptop to the Internet via a Winproxy 4.0 proxy server (and I’ve already followed the advice about explicitly declaring the proxy server to no effect).
Would be grateful to know what is actually causing the issue. :-[
