I have a computer that came with Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit pre-installed, on which I have the latest version of Avast installed. IE9, both 32 and 64-bit, works fine. I recently installed Win 7 Pro 64-bit on the E partition, and after installing the latest version of Avast, discovered that the 32-bit version of IE8 and IE9 work, but, in both cases, the 64-bit version immediately and consistently crashes, with the message “Internet Explorer has stopped working”. With IE10 and IE11, both the 32 and 64-bit versions crash. After a lot of experimenting, I discovered that turning off Web Shield in Avast fixed the problem.
I can live with IE9 32-bit for the time being, but would like to eventually upgrade to IE11, and don’t like the idea of turning Web Shield off. Does anybody have any ideas on how I can get IE to work with Web Shield?
I can tell you that I’m using Win 7 64 bit with avast 2014 free and IE 11 and all is well with the web shield on and IE9 worked fine before I upgraded to 11 sooooo possibly some add-on you are using?
As mentioned by Para-Noid try a repair. If it doesn’t work uninstall it via Add/Remove, run avast uninstall utility, and download and run Avast Cleanup Tool found from here http://rejzor.wordpress.com/avast-cleanup-tool/
Note: Run Avast Cleanup Tool in normal mode. After using Avast Cleanup Tool, restart your computer manually. After that download and install a fresh new copy of Avast, register your copy of avast, and restart your computer manually again.
