Hey guys! I’m having a strange issue with a friend’s PC who has avast free installed. Within the last few days (maybe since Friday), most web pages load unbearably slow - it takes several minutes to load a page which would normally load in a second or two. Two examples are cbsnews.com or abcnews.go.com, among many others. Likewise when trying to open the router’s administration page, so it has absolutely nothing to do with the internet connection.
When I disable the avast Web Shield, everything loads normally.
The Pc is running Windows 7 Home Premium with all windows updates. It’s also running Online Armor free. Checking the OA logs, nothing seems to be blocked, and all avast executables are marked as trusted.
I am also having this issue, v7.0.1474 on Windows 8 (fresh install) 64
Disabling the web shield allows pages to load - with the webshield on, and intermittently, pages and even windows update checks etc do not load or take an age.
Thanks for the software - hoping for some guidance from the community,
Regards,
nu
// I should also add I have a native windows 8 64 network device driver for my network device
I’m not actually on the free version - i’m on a pro trial.
RE: my problems - i did a “repair” installation via the setup (I was going to uninstall and reinstall but the installer/uninstaller has the option to repair)
It seems, so far, since doing the “repair” the problems described has gone away.
It help’s to make sure you have “Scan traffic from well- known browser processes only” box ticked in main setting’s . Go to Real Time Shields - Web Shield Tab - Expert Setting’s button - Main Settings - Tick in box “Scan traffic from well- known browser processes only” Reboot if necessary. Internet used to really lag and was unbearable until checking this box straightened everything out.
