Web Shield disabled, won't enable... bug?

I was doing a small test to see whether MBAM or SAS could detect the harmless Eicar file. ((spoiler - they don’t.))

I first disabled File System Shield, then the Web Shield - Otherwise download would be blocked.

After testing.

I right-clicked the avast! icon and avast! shield controls > Enable all shields (2 disabled).

I continued using the computer for about 30 minutes, then put it to sleep (overnight).

This morning, I wake it from Sleep mode - to find that Web Shield is inactive.

I open avast! and try to Start it, it won’t.

Avast shows warning triangle on icon.

Note: I haven’t rebooted.

Extra Info:

  • Windows 7 64-bit
  • Avast! 5.0.545 Free
  • Outpost Free Firewall

So, reboot

Yes, I know.

But, if one has the option to disable a shield for some amount of time, the shield should reactive after - without the need for a reboot.

And it’s if not possible to do so, then the function should be removed.
