Web Shield Exclusion - http://api*.webrep.avast.com/*

I have been using Avast Free Edition and I just got a new laptop. I downloaded Avast on the laptop and when I was reviewing settings I noticed that there is a web shield exclusion for http://api*.webrep.avast.com/* found in web shield>expert settings>exclusions. I did not enter this exclusion so is this a default setting and if it is why is it there? Should the exclusion be deleted? I need an explanation on this and thank you.

Yes it is a default setting and no you should not delet it.
It’s put in place i believe for less impact on bandwidth when the webrep service is doing it’s checking, im not 100% sure on that but i would leave default exclusions alone as avast have done it for a reason and they know more about the functionality of avast than we do.

It’s a default exclusion for avast webrep.

Thank you craigb and djbone. Myother computer with Avast has the exclusion but I had not it before so I wanted to make sure that it was supposed to be there.

Your welcome

The webrep by its nature will be checking to that URL if you hover the webrep icon on search results or click on the webrep icon for a web page you are browsing. This is how it retrieves the information about the website, since this is webrep oriented and going back to avast you don’t really want the webrep constantly checking its own traffic. It would possibly become cyclic generating constant checks on the checks.
