A few weeks ago my computer kept freezing when I would open chrome. I eventually tried deactivating avast web shield and after that chrome worked perfectly and my computer never froze again. I also reactivated the web shield every now and then to see if it still makes my computer freeze when I open chrome and it still does. For now I’ll just keep the web shield deactivated. Can anyone help? I would like to be able to activate the web shield and still use chrome.
Try a repair…Control Panel>Uninstall a Program>double click “avast”>click “repair”>reboot.

I tried it, but it didn’t work. The first two times I opened Chrome it worked fine, but the third time the computer froze.
If after trying what Para-Noid posted above, that is trying a “repair” (see the image example Para-Noid posted) and if that doesn’t help then try going to the option above “change” and deselecting (unchecking) Grimefighter (assuming you’re not using this function) and see if this helps. You can always go back an select it again if this doesn’t help.
I would be curious if this solves the freezing problem. Be sure and check back and let us know if doing either helps.
Btw, the way you get to what Para-Noid posted is to do this: go to Control Panel > Programs and Features > click on Avast > select Repair and continue to update. Same thing to deselect Grimefighter, that is do the same thing but instead of selecting “Repair” select “Change”, find “Grimefighter” in the list and then untick (remove check) and continue to update.
Or if all else fails, you can try re-installing (remove and install) either Chrome (first option I’d take) or re-installing Avast.
