Try to repair your installation through Control Panel.
Any other security program or internet filter that could be interfering?
Another oddity since upgrading to avast7 - may or may not be coincidence.
mozilla thunderbird sign-in popup doesn’t appear unless I switch to SSL/Encrypted password (and so cut out avast mail scanner).
Uninstalled and reinstalled and all is now well
I trust you already know Web Shield scans http:/ traffic
Web Shield does not scan https:/ traffic
be sure Base-Filter-Engine service is started (on your keyboard windows+ r then type services.msc)
also be sure aswRdr2.sys under C:/windows/system32/drivers was deleted bevore you reinstall
Hi,
be sure exactly of this last step fishb0t suggested. As we tested together, it turned out that the aswClear uninstall tool seems to leave that file in the mentioned location, which prevented the new installer from installing the new redirection driver for web & mail scanning in Windows.
Thanks to all for your input - as I said - it’s working now.
I remembered that first time it happened I had just uninstalled the avast Remote Assistance component.
I reinstalled avast (including remote assistance), and webshield was fine.
Then I uninstalled remote assistance again rebooted - and hey presto - webshield won’t scan, and Thunderbird sign in pop-up is missing again!
I now have aswRdr.sys and aswRdr2.sys under C:/windows/system32/drivers. Is this right?
The former was just created after I uninstalled remote assistance.
Title of post changed
Now done a custom reinstall without remote assistance and all is well again.
aswRdr.sys has gone.
Seems you can’t remove remote assistance once it’s installed and keep web and mail shield redirect drivers happy for some reason?
I don’t think it is really in purposed (programmed that way). I think there is some bug in the uninstaller and in aswclear that “forgets” to clean up “aswRdr.sys”.
