Web Shield not scanning though settings appear correct

Sorry to be the umpteenth person to ask for help with this kind of issue…

I’m running avast! Home version 4.6.763 with Windows 98 on an old desktop, a Gateway G6-400, 400 MHz Pentium 2, with an Earthlink DSL connection. Among other things, I’m also running Spybot and McAfee Personal Firewall. I’m quite sure the Web Shield was working fine whenever I checked last (ages ago), but I just happened to glance at it to find that the Scanned Count remains at zero while I surf the web.

I have no problems with the DSL connection itself. Other avast! counters, such as that for the Standard Shield and Internet Mail, seem fine and show each new item scanned as they should.

The manually configured LAN settings seem correct according to your instructions (port 10280, localhost) and my McAfee firewall lists the Web Scanner as being allowed “full access”.

Any suggestions?

Never mind… but is always good to post which solution did you take… it could help the others with the same problem 8)
