I have a message on my avast (version 2014.9.0.2013) shows my Web Shield as turned off, and it won’t let me turn it on. However if I look at my Statistics page, my Web Shield is registering activity and scanning items. Should I be worried? And if so, how do I fix this?

Have you tried a reboot ? you can also run the repair option via uninstall programs - click to uninstall avast then choose repair and reboot when completed.
Wow…Really something I should have thought to try first 
Had an issue before which repair function didn’t work on and had to do full uninstall re-install. This time worked perfectly though. Thanks ^.^
