Web Shield on Avast 7 Free kills ALL traffic on ALL browsers?!?

And yes, I had to disable it to even access this website!! :frowning:

What’s going on though? I mean, forget the usual legit sites & message boards I frequent… CNN? ESPN? Google… and again… AVAST.COM?!

I kill webshield… everything is gravy. I enable it… everything is dead giving me some form of “Unable to connect” in any browser I try.

“Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage” - IE
"Google Chrome is having trouble accessing the network.

This may be because your firewall or antivirus software wrongly thinks Google Chrome is an intruder on your computer and is blocking it from connecting to the Internet" - Chrome pretty much hinting to start looking at my protection software… which… is you guys after turning on/off shields.

Narrowed it down to just your Web Shield since I started off killing everything & I don’t want to run bare naked with none of your protection, at the same time I don’t want even my Web Shield to be down for long which I’ll have to do to… well… do stuff on the web!!

Heeelp!! :frowning:

do you have a firewall with outbound protection?

Outside of just Windows firewall, no

Always ran both with no problems, only since my recent restart I have had the problem of browsing ANYTHING with Web Shield enabled. Also killed Windows Firewall AND kept Web Shield enabled & still have problems with no web browsing to any place.

Web Shield just blocks any & everything while giving me the Dikembe Mutombo finger wag when enabled :frowning:

Greetings,
I am running Avast Free version 7.0.1474 and I am experiencing the same trouble of not having internet access using various browsers. I have full access with the web shield disabled. I am running Windows 7, 64 bit and am currently using online Armor as my firewall and have not had trouble until recently. I don’t have browser access with the web shield active and my firewall disabled. There is an apparent issue with the web shield feature of avast. any help or assistance with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

try this. Delete all avast rules in firewall restart computer and create new rules

Same troubles since today morning.
Disable Webshield can not be the solution with Avast 8.0.1480 (ok, its RC 3)
Send Minidump to Avast.

Tevion

So, are you on V7 or V8…??

Hi Asyn,
It is V8 - Notebook with Win 8 and Avast 8 RC 3.

Tevion

Same problem, webshield kills all internet traffic. Any solution to this?

Bingo…same problem here. Tried to solved it but finally i gave it up.

win7 avast vers. 8

Just letting you know - same problem here, have another topic in this same forum about it haha.
What’s going on?!
Time to switch to Avira or MSE?

Don`t switch. This will be patched i think.

This is one of the best programs.

I will give you this: it’s a great AV program… But it’s not the first time I’ve had problems with the Web Shield/network interference.

I have read that, even messages from years ago.

But i had another paid version of another viruskiller. That
gave me more headaches than the free one.

But i do use a firewall with realtime protection and some virus recognise
so i am not afraid something will happen when i disabled webshield.

But it is strange, i have 3 pc`s here. On the other 2 nothing has happened with avast.

Back home i just activated webshield - now its all right again.
Internet connection is no longer blocked in my case.
Thanks Avast Team for fast reaction.

Tevion

What was the solution tevion?

Strange - mine is back to normal as well…
How bout everyone else?

I still have the issue. :frowning:

Sorry i dont know.
I have no solution found except to turn on the webshield again
In my opinion Avast is adjusted by a quick update of the situation (due to a streaming update).

Tevion

That`s a pitty.

On my desktop there arent any problems with avast. With my wifes laptop too.

But the laptop for my little niece this problem is still present. I want to bring today
the laptop to her but i want to have this problem solved.

Using the avast 8 3rd beta version on all computers.
