Web Shield settings for trusted HTTP servers on LAN

Would like to customize the Web Shield to not scan local Intranet web server communication, as Avast is causing a delay in our application (Java Applet) running in IE 6.

For example, how to instruct it not to scan subnet 192.168.1.0/24.
While still protecting Internet browsing?

Avast Pro 4.8
on XP Pro

Any advice appreciated.

I’m not sure the WebShield exceptions will work for you, but this is said in the help file:

URLs to exclude: Use the Add button to enter the URL address that should be ignored. If you want to block a single page only, it is necessary to enter the full path. For example, if you add http://www.yahoo.com/index.html, only the page index.html will be excluded from scanning. If you enter http://www.yahoo.com/*, however, no pages starting with http://www.yahoo.com will be scanned. Similarly, if you do not want to scan a particular file type, e.g. files with txt extension, simply enter *.txt.

Port 24 is not scanned by default.

Which provider is scanning the traffic? WebShield? Standard Shield?

The delay is noticeable when the applet fires a URL and XML at the server and waits for a reply (also XML) from the servlet.
This is on port 8080 (not 80).
I assume this is Web Shields job to monitor this.

Unless the delay is caused by the Standard Shield scanning the Java Cache?

Well avast doesn’t monitor other proxy ports, 8080 by default. It also ignores local communications by default. So I don’t know what you have been doing, unless you have been tweaking the web shield settings ?

So unless you added port 8080 to the redirected ports list (avast doesn’t scan that ports content), if you added it to the redirects, unless you uncheck ‘Ignore local Communication’ avast would still ignore local communications.

So I really am at a loss as to what is going on.

Have (or did) you another AV installed in this system, if so what was it and how did you get rid of it ?
