Hi, update to VERSION 6.0.1203 but still have the problem with Chrome 12.0.742.112…
As soon as I turn Web Shield on, any web page I try to open stays stuck in “loading”, no errors, not display on the screen, browser just keeps on saying “Loading…”. Left it for more than a minute with no change.
In CHROME unistall or disable all your Apps, and themes.
menu- TOOLS - EXTENTIONS
open chrome://settings/browser
*SEARCH- If Google is your search engine, disable instant on.
UNDER THE HOOD -PRIVACY -
click - CLEAR BROWSING DATA
*****As no two computers are alike, all settings and configurations are different.
Doing the above changes worked for me, however they may not work for you. So be carefull.
Apply the changes, one at a time , and then re boot the computer to see if it makes a difference.
If after all that , I would check your proxy settings in chrome. It can also be from the sites you are visiting. Hulu makes avast go banannas when you start streaming a movie and disconnects after 1 min.
GOOD LUCK
I did just notice you said “as soon as i turn web shield on”
Is it not on all the time? If not, It should be.
Make sure the shields are ON BEFORE starting a Chrome session.
Try that first…
Thanks for the quick reply. I’ll give those steps a try and report back if they worked or not.
The reason web shield is permanently off is because I can’t surf the web at all with it on so I had to turn it off completely.
I used to use Bitdefender but their yearly fees were too much, then I used AVG for a while but it was too resource intensive and caused other problems so after I read the Avast reviews, I decided to use it instead and I like it the best so far.
Links to the vendor’s uninstall tool for AVG and BitDefender ( and other security software ) can be found at http://thewebatom.net/uninstallers/security-software/. There may be active remnants of these two programs that are causing problems, even after the normal uninstall.
I don’t have any problem with the Web Shield and Chrome. I’m not sure it even works since I haven’t gotten any alerts from it since I started using the browser. I did get a few alerts in IE8 previously.
The graphs are showing activity so I guess I’ve just been surfing safely. ;D
