When Web Shield intercepts something, that piece of malware never actually came to users PC. So the warning above just confuses the user.
Use the text that explains that malware was blocked successfully and that user is safe from it.
Also make sure you fix the sound so it won’t say “Virus has been detected on your computer” ,because it was already blocked before it came to PC (ok,if we look from user perspective,we know that you have to download something in order to check).
This again confuses users.
I agree this is totally misleading and has been the cause of a number of treads on the forum of avast users trying and not being able to find the virus on their computer.
Warning suggestion:
A Virus Was Detected On the Internet
There is no reason to panic, though. Follow the advice and Abort the connection, this will only terminate the download of the virus and not your internet connection. By Aborting the connection the virus will not be downloaded and will not be on your system.
Audio suggestion:
“A virus has been detected on the Internet”
Well, “A virus has been detected on the Internet” sounds like “The truth is out there” to me
Anyway, the next version should have a different text there. As for the sound… well, good point, it should probably be changed as well. It’s something for Vlk to play with, I guess ;D

It seems to describe the truth of the situation and also has a suitable military, counter espionage or sci-fi ring about it, being associated with preventing terrorists/enemy missiles/UFO’s/radio signals entering or invading your country or planet or doing something bad.
A few random quotes from the net:
The Missile Defense agency is reportedly planning to test the Near Field Infrared Experiment (NFIRE) system in 2006, according to the Globalsecurity Newswire, citing an apparent email discussion among defense officials. The NFIRE has the potential to aid in the development of a space-based kill vehicle to be used to intercept a ballistic missile.

Igor, i also have another suggesstion for sounds. They are way too noisy.
I was playing around with them and i decreased volume for 20dB (-20dB from their current level). At this point it was much better.
VPS update sound nearly killed me few times while i was listening to the music,so i was forced to disable sounds completely.
Even better would be to control sound volume internaly by slider inside avast!, but i’m not sure if you can make anything like this.
I also hope you’ll fix VPS update popup window in next release,so it won’t interfere with full-screen games and video.
Make all these warning messages to be displayed centered on screen.
Web Shield warnings appear to work ok(always centered),but when i scan with Context extension, warnings appear whenever they want, sometimes almost offscreen.
Thats not good and looks very strange.
-20dB? That’s less than one third of the volume… seems terribly lot to me. But I admit I have all the sounds turned off, so I’m not very familiar with them.
As for the quick scanner window - I guess the initial position is controled by the operating system itself (by some internal artifical inteligence that knows the best where you need this window ;))
Well, Avast does not update so many times a day. Feels good to hear that voice to know it is working.
But I run my puter 24/7 so I just turn down the speakers a bit when sleeping. But that voice telling me: “Avast antirus has been updated” would not I guess wake me up, cause I have been getting used to it
Good original post from Rejzor about a little scaring web shield message, and agree with Freewheeling Frank, the message that a virus is intercepted is better. Not that I get them so often, those alerts.
It’s not effective. PS. Funny story. ;D One night I was downloading movie from FTP and I’ve forgot to turn off my sound system. So I had perfect alarm clock at 4 AM which sounded all around the house. VIRUS DATABASE HAS BEEN UPDATED. ;D
And WEB Shield warning should be changed. I had some stress at first time Web Shield detected virus, as I though it’s standart shield warning.
