web shield will not enable

I am not computer savee. I updated avast free and now the web shield will not turn on. I deleted avast and reinstalled. I deleted it in safe mode and reinstalled but the web shied will not enable . I am using windows vista and firefox as browser

I assume my computer is at risk without the web shield enabled ?
ANy ideas would be sincerely appreciated

try avast repair

controlpanel > ad/remove programs > avast > uninstall/change > repair option

Hi GUys:

thanks for responses i had no repair option just uninstall . so got your uninstaller and used that then reloaded the program in but still no web shield ? any other ideas

Hello,

you have necessarily repair option just after you clik on “uninstall”(yes you have to clik on it first) in the controlpanel => 4 other options = “update”,“change”,“repair”,“remove”.
If not => it’s not avast you have.

uggh i think i am just going to have to get a different anitviral bummer i really like avast

Did you use the Avast Uninstall Utility / did a clean install the right way ?

Download the Avast Uninstall Utility to your desktop.
Download the correct version of Avast.

Avast Free
Avast Pro
Avast Internet Security
Avast Premier

Disconnect from the internet.
Uninstall Avast via control panel.

Run the Uninstall Utility and accept the reboot to safe mode.
Once complete reboot your system.
Reinstall Avast.

Yes I used the Avast UNistall utility and it ran immediately without any issues form what I could tell

Of course , “repair” option is not able by the Avast Uninstall Utility , only with windows uninstaller with control panel in normal mode.
However ,like I said before , did you try to re-install the old 2218 version ? Some troubles with 2223 and 2225 as far I’m concerned , no more web shield with them…

I wanted to get back to everyone on this. I was reading and came across another entry in the forums which suggested reloading this older version

SO I uninstalled using the utility in safe mode then installed this version in safe mode and now it appears that all shields are working!!

HOwever, there is now a big red X is present on the avast icon indicating that I have renewed my subscription and wants $30 ?

WHats going on ?

As far I’m concerned , 2 weeks I’ve send ticket (MIU-684-63686) and 8 days avast received global Package , no news today :-\

@msn56 : are you sure you have input your license code with v2218 ?

I dont want to load the new version because I strongly suspect the same thing will happen.

I have used the remove utility and loaded the new version about 6 times and the web shield will not activate when I do that

This is the first time it has worked and its because I loaded the old version - so my guess is there is something wrong with that new version and my computer .

I dont have any ‘license code’ with 2218 - what do I need to do to get a license code ??

in your first post you said

So , it’s normal avast wants you to pay $30 (AIS is a paid suite) , you have to download v2218 of Avast Antivirus only (AV is free)

How many times msn56 will have to say the latest version of Avast don’t work anyway (like me even after 20 clean install) , the only way for us and for now is v2218 , no more.
