Web Shield will not stay enabled - 11.2.2262

Hello all. I’m working with build 11.2.2262 (Free version currently running in trial mode) and I’m being warned: “Some of your real-time shields are turned off.” I click “Turn on” and nothing happens. I click “Resolve All” and nothing happens. I open the dialog, manually enable the Web Shield, save and close - then re-open the dialog and the Web Shield is back to OFF. If it matters, this issue began before upgrading to the trial mode of the software.

What I’ve tried:

[ol]- Restarting the service: System and Maintenance > Administrative Tools > Services > Avast Antivirus > Restart the service

  • Repairing the program through Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features … Change > Repair
  • Uninstall Avast in Windows Safe Mode using Avast removal tool (avastclear.exe) followed by a clean fresh install of Avast 11.2.2262[/ol]

OS is Windows Vista and no other AV software is installed.

I’m not sure what else to do.

Thank you.

Register the free version and see if it solves the problem.

By registering the free version I’m assuming you mean upgrade to the pay version? I have another PC running the free version of 11.2.2262 with no issues so I am hesitant to spend money when there is only a chance it will solve the problem.

No he isn’t suggesting you upgrade to a paid version.

The free version, although free, requires that you Register it.
From the AvastUI > Settings (cog icon) > Registration. Ignore the Insert activation code and the Insert license file, these are (paid versions of avast) if you upgraded to a paid version.

Okay, thank you for the clarification. I just checked the registration status and it says “You are Registered.” The date of registration was 06-MAY-2016.

OK.

If the web shield still isn’t starting, do you have any other security based applications installed (anti-malware, firewall, etc. ?

Do you have any other application that monitors or filters web traffic ?

No.

Get and run Farbar and attach the logs to your next post here. (FRST.txt and addition.txt)

Oddly the same issue came up this morning on one of my computers (with XP Pro SP3 and all other updates)
I did a repair of Avast and so far all is well.
