Hi Guys,
Being new to Avast, can someone tell me what Web Shield covers; the status monitor tells me it’s waiting for a sub system to start but what (typically) would that type of programme be?
Thanks in advance!

When you connect to the net and use your web browser it should start. What the shield does is very basically filters the web pages on the fly for any virusses and will give a noticeable warning, when you recieve the warning don’t panic 'cos it never even arrived on your system. If you need further info just shout, and welcome to the forum
Aren’t you, by any chance, using Windows 95/98/ME?
If so, you need to make certain changes in your browser configuration for it to work.
See the following FAQ entry (including an instruction video): http://www.avast.com/eng/faq-home-webshield.html
Thanks

Thanks guys,
after a restart I now have all 7 providers working. (XP pro but thanks for the tips)
You don’t require providers that you don’t use, so if you don’t use IM, P2P programs you can terminate these.
You only require the Outlook/Exchange provider if you are using MS Outlook (not express) or MS Exchange clients, so you can probably terminate that also. The message ‘waiting for a sub system to start’ is usually associated with this as it is waiting for MS Outlook to start. For other email clients, OE, etc. the Internet Mail provider is the one you require.
I dont use p2p or IM so thanks for the confirmation of that David.
