when I run my mouse over the avast icon it says 6/7 providers running (outlook not on) but the only one that ever has a scanned file count is the standard shield. web shield etc always says no files scenned, even yho I’m downloading stuff. it my web shield on?
running XP, firefox and IE and free zonealarm (which I didn’t think had the privacy control issues?)
anyway set it up manually, it now works and tells me it scans the web pages when using firefox. It still doesn’t look as though its working with IE (ie the number of scanned files doesn’t go up), but when I loaded your first test file in IE, I got the alert from avast
actually, firefox and IE give different alert mesages with the first of your test files. Firefox gives the option to “abort connection”, IE doesn’t, it gives the “move to chest/delete/take no action options”.
What version of IE are you using ?
It should as far as I’m aware give the same alert. Having just tested it with IE it does, so your IE setup doesn’t appear to be working.
The other alert would appear to be detected by the Standard Shield when it hits your HDD, browser cache.
Yes it does, my question was two fold, one to see if you were using IE7 beta or an even earlier version.
That said, I can’t see why IE6 would not have the same response as firefox unless you had disabled the transparent proxy of web shield (incorrectly) because of having ZA free. If you had manually set-up firefox to use the web shield proxy but not IE.
ZONE ALARM - AVAST Web Shield compatibility dialogue - Install/Update Question - YES or NO
If you are using ZoneAlarm Free you should click NO, because privacy features are not present in ZoneAlarm Free this will not turn off web shield transparent mode proxy.
Use a text editor and edit the avast4.ini file, the default installation location is C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\avast4.ini (I would advise you copy avast4.ini before editing it, just in case).
Locate the line containing ZoneAlarmCompatibility= and delete that line. Save the edited avast4.ini file.
If you are using ZoneAlarm Pro and Privacy Control in ZoneAlarm is set to High and if you click YES in avast compatibility dialogue box the transparent mode proxy in web shield will be turned off you have to manually configure browser to access internet. To manually configure your browser watch instructional video
deleting that line sorted the problem out, must’ve clicked “yes” during initial installation. woking with both IE and firefox now. I hardly ever use IE, but I suppose I should download an updated version anyway
