WebRep addon incompatable with firefox 5

Upon starting firefox this evening to perform my daily tasks, i saw that firefox 5 was officially released and available. So i updated, and started it up. I immediately noticed that the addon was disabled and not compatible with the new version of firefox. I really dont know what to do as of yet. But here are my options:

  1. Downgrade back to firefox 4.0 (most likely my choice, but not preferred)
  2. Use Internet Explorer
  3. Download WebOfTrust and hope it works with 5.0 until Avast! updates WebRep
  4. Live on

=P

Is there anything that can be done as of this point?

Of course, upgrade to the new beta which is very stable and your problems will be solved  http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=80315.msg658226#msg658226

Thank you craig. Iā€™m often a skeptic when it comes to beta versions of products i use most frequently (The type with the mindset ā€œIf it isnā€™t broken, donā€™t fix itā€). Updating as always was painless, and provided the fix i was looking for.
Many thanks,

Your welcome

i know. it sucks but its ok because firefox has its own plugin that is similar. im using it now and seems to be doing alright

Its a minor issue that is and has been easyly fixed.
Without reference to what plugin your talking about it makes your post rather pointless.

after updating to firefox 5 i went to see what plugins firefox had to replace the avast webrep, or to see if there were any new fixes to enable webrep again and i found one called weboftrust and installed it. im using it now.

My understanding is that Firefox is going to release a new version every 6 or 12 weeks, so FF6 should be out and about around August/September - if my understanding is correct. Is Alwil gonna be able to keep up with that? FF5 is officially out now six days ago, and Webrep is still out of date.

Iā€™m not thinking of rolling back FF. Iā€™m thinking of disabling Webrep, if I canā€™t make use of it anymore. As a matter of fact. I think I will.

Actually, I canā€™t find the setting for Webrepā€¦ How do I disable it?

Open avast > Additional protection > WebRep.

That was fast! Thank you, Tech.

I hope that Alwil will be able to come up with a new strategy for updating itā€™s plugins/extensions. I liked Webrep. Iā€™ll miss it (until itā€™s updated). Itā€™s not just Mozilla. In fact, Mozilla is following Chromium/Google Chrome on its speed of version upgrades. I can understand Alwilā€™s careful approach to updating itā€™s core AV program, but it seems that when it comes to browser extensions and plugins, the game has changed.

At least, thatā€™s how it seems to meā€¦

Be used to avast forum speed

Wellā€¦ tons of developers are complaining with Mozilla about that. I have three disabled addons, they took one week to be updatedā€¦ You can: 1) wait to update Firefox; 2) wait to update/enable your addons back. Iā€™ve took the first way some times in the past.
Both are free, the browser and the addons, we can complain but we canā€™t do much moreā€¦

One solution is to have both WOT and WebRep installed. They work together with no issues.
So, while we wait for WebRep to be compatible thereā€™s WOT (wich in fact is more complete).

I had the same problem with Webrep and Firefox 5, so I installed the ā€˜add-on compatibility reporterā€™ for Firefox and Webrep now works, it also helps for other add-ons that donā€™t work.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/

Thanks for the tip, I had two add-ons that didnā€™t work with FF5 but now they do:-)

I just installed WebRep today. Uninstalled it after 10 minutes. I had problems with Facebook functions after installation which disappeared after I removed WebRep. Browser: Google Chrome.

Which problems? WebRep shouldnā€™t interfereā€¦
