Running Avast internet Security on Windows 7 64 bit. Webrep does not work in Chrome. I went through Webrep Missing in Action post. Could not do drag and drop described in Youtube video because I do not have a Chrome folder in Program Files > Avast Software > Avast > Webrep. I have FF, IE, Opera, and Safari, but no Chrome folder. Webrep is not in my chrome extensions. Another curious issue is that Chrome extensions settings shows Avast Online Security Enabled, but Browser Integration for Google Chrome shows Security plugin not installed. However, when I try to install it, message says it is already installed. Can someone help with resolving these issues?
Seems like there is nothing wrong. With the latest update Avast did away with the WebRep plugin and Avast Online Security took over. You should now see an “a” on the top left of your Chrome web browser. Its a bug that Avast shows it not installed but clearly it is. If you click on “install” you will be brought to a web page to install Avast Online Security. So technically there is no issue. Do a Google search and you will see the webrep rating system. No reason to be alarmed my friend.

Read up on it.
Aventador, Thanks for your quick reply. However, I am feeling a little ignorant and still confused. I do not see the “a” in upper left hand corner of web page. But I do see the ratings in results for a web search. So the ratings systems is apparently working. But how do I see ratings for a web page I am on? And how do I vote/rate? And why does the Avast 8 user manual still discuss Webrep, not Online Security. Same for online help.
Here are my settings:
- Google Chrome > Settings > Extensions > Online Security > Enabled
- Avast Settings > Browser Integration > Google Chrome > Security plugin not installed. Click on “Install” , taken to web page to install, but says it is already installed.
- Avast Settings > WebRep & Anntiphishing > checkbox for Enable WebRep is checked.
I am confused. What am I missing? Thanks you so much for your help.
Sorry I meant upper right corner where all your Chrome add ons are. What other add ons do you see? Is Avast hidden? This is what you should see. If it is install and listed under extensions then its working and not an Avast issue but a Chrome issue.
Thanks again, Aventador, for the quick reply. I see the “a” now and see that is the way to view web rating and to vote. Guess I really don’t know why the documentation is not up to date. But anyway, I understand there is no problem and I appreciate your help.
I see the icon just fine, but for me it doesn’t work! it shows no ratings on any site!
Your welcome. Anytime.
this is what I get on every site:
Looks like your using “incognito mode”.
Avast used to rate my search results in google but they don’t do that anymore. By rate i mean those bars that show peoples rating about how safe a website is. If that’s called “webrep” then that’s what I’m talking about. It still shows up near the search tab of my Firefox browser but I don’t wanna click a website from the google results and find out it has poor rating for safety when I get to the actual page.
I’m not sure if I have google chrome I don’t remember installing it I think it’s just regular google.
I gave it permission to be active during incognito mode, I thought perhaps it was not working because of another extension interfering. I’ve removed it now since it was not working, I’m using Webutation now
Google Chrome is the Google Browser (Like Firefox or Internet Explorer)
I don’t know what you mean by regular Google. Google makes lots of things. (Search tool - Google Drive - G-mail - etc, etc)
