Webrep in FireFox Portable?

I use a portable build of Firefox, running from the hard drive, meaning that avast doesn’t detect it to install webrep.
Is it possible to install it in this (i.e. with the xpi file) I can’t find the install file in the avast folder.

You could try the beta build in the ECC, it’s still there. :wink:

Yeah, that is what I am using at the moment, just that it wont be updated, will it. That is a beta…

Just open %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles<profile folder>\extensions or your profile\extensions folder in your portable location and place the webrep folder(C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\WebRep\FF) in it. Check whether that works.

EDIT: See here http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=72360.msg603437#msg603437 , too.

I’d do a backup of Firefox profile folders before trying this. In the Avast install directory is a WebRep\FF folder. Zip up the entire contents of that folder (not the folder itself) and then rename it changing the .zip extension to .XPI. You could then start Firefox Portable and drag-n-drop the XPI into the Add-ons | Extensions tab.

I think (but don’t know for sure) that should work as the contents of the FF folder contain the usual contents of XPI Firefox extension installs.

Oh yeah. I got it. I have a better way I guess. Idk. Just open the extensions.ini in the profile folder and add this line:

Extension23=C:\Program Files\AVAST Software\Avast\WebRep\FF

Replace 23 by the next number in the extensions list. Add it before [ThemeDirs] and save it. You’re good to go.

Let us know if it worked.

Thanks nmb working now :slight_smile:

Which one worked?

I copied the folder to the extensions folder, so that if I copy it to somewhere else the postablility is not broken (AFAIK the postableapps launcher updates things like this), then changed the extentions.ini file.

So, its a combination of both. Cool 8)

And, I learned something new today. 8)

I wonder if what I outlined would have worked, too. ???

Oh yeah sorry, tried that and got an error, no install script or something to that effect.

Thanks, SCOTT for trying. Wonder what’s missing? Do you still have the link to the beta WebRep? I believe that was a .XPI install. I just want to look at it. WebRep is working for me on a regular install of Firefox 3.6.13, so I don’t really want to experiment.

@nmb
Could you look at the contents of the FF folder and determine what is missing or the error?

John,

You can get the xpi from corner cafe ;). I really don’t know what is the error, because I don’t use portable ff. But there might be differences in the beta xpi and the one installed in webrep/ff of avast folder :-. But I dont see the difference. May be it is dependent on how the portable app works. Idk.

Sent you a PM…

nmb and Asyn,

Thanks I have it downloaded now. I’m in new territory here, but perhaps I can find the difference. :stuck_out_tongue:

You’re welcome…!
Btw, the release version in avast 6.0 is the same as the beta #2 in the ECC. :wink:

That’s good to know, and should make it easier. 8) Thanks.

You sure? Because there is a popup which displays details when you hover over the webrep icon on google results, for eg, while it was not there in beta2.
