I just feel that since IE is still the most widely used browser, they could have done a better job of implementation in IE8. Saying it’s IE’s fault really doesn’t cut it.
As you do not know how to set up IE then its not IE’s fault.
In IE go to Tools that is the gear then Toolbars select Menu bar
Calling it as it is, if you don’t have any toolbars displayed on IE where the h*ll are they going to put it. I don’t know with the added security in IE8 and IE9, if they are able to do a great deal more than use the toolbar function.
I don’t know if like in firefox they could have placed the icon in the status bar as some other add-ons have done, NoScript, AdBlock+, CookieMonster, etc. etc. But even so positioning of toolbars in firefox is much more flexible than in IE.
I always have the Menu Bar tool bar displayed, have got so used to it over the years, even though it can access it from the Alt key. Or that space would still be taken up by any other toolbar that you did have. There are probably a small minority that don’t have any toolbars installed and active, so it really shouldn’t be an issue.
Personally since I don’t use IE as my default browser, I have uninstalled the WebRep toolbar anyway. If you don’t like the space it takes up then I suggest you do the same and be done worrying about it.
I don’t want the menu bar. I know very well how to make it show. I don’t want it. I can do everything I need to without ever even using it. There is no reason why something with such a primitive graphic as this webrep needs to take up an entire toolbar. It is uninstalled now btw since I don’t think it’s a necessary feature at all. Some people may though and it’s implementation in IE leaves a lot to be desired.
It is uninstalled now btw since I don't think it's a necessary feature at all. That's always an option and your choice. I'm using Chrome and am still waiting for this feature to be implemented. :'(
In March I hear but I bet they will remove it as they do not like WebRep at all!
Avast is working on a WebRep fix http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=72297.0 which may pertain to your problems.
k.u.r.t posted that the only way to have a dynamic (changing colour) icon for webrep in IE was to have it as a toolbar, so that was the only option and why it is not as desirable as for some…
The so called "command bar" is a possible place for the icon BUT (there is always a but ...) we would loose the ability to update its icon as you navigate to different websites - which would render the button kind of useless. To be able to have an updatable toolbar we really do not have any other choice than the current solution I am afraid.http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=70504.msg592651#msg592651
i want webRep in chrome and opera!!!
Yes, especially Opera.
Thanks
I think Opera will be down the priority list given its very small user base. Chrome is likely to be included first around April time. Though no fixed deadline.
why do we measure the user base, it should be for every browser :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
Because to work on every browser it has to be able to interface with the browser, it isn’t a simple tool that will work for every browser.
Why otherwise would there be a separate entry for both Firefox & IE in the interface.
So they have to apply priorities.
oh
I think WebRep feature should be integrate for Opera or Chrome Browser too. My ideas dev out to widget or extension for outer browser.
The webrep will be further integrated for other browsers but it will be done on a priority basis and that would obviously be based on the user base of the browser. They have already said that Chrome is likely to be next in line possibly April.
