webrep not working for me

I know webrep has had a few issues over the last few days but VLK’s post indicates it should be working.
It did come online for me for a little while but somehow now its stopped working.

I’ve tried removing and re-installing the plugin but no dice. Is anyone else having any issues?

A few of the servers in the cluster are currently down. So it really comes down to which IP address (which server) you got from DNS.

Anyway, give us a day or so - it should be much better.

Thanks
Vlk

Except for the 30 minute or so caching of WebRep ratings that has been mentioned, WebRep is having to contact the server when we visit a site, if I understand correctly.

Would something that works similar to Firefox’s phishing protection (which downloads a database of sites incrementally in the background from Google) instead of hitting the WebRep server when one browses to a different domain relieve some of the stress from the servers? Firefox stores this information in urlclassifier3.sqlite in the user’s profile folder. At this time, the filesize is 35,180KB.

Instead of using Google, use the WebRep servers as you now are to serve instead. I realize that voting would still require contacting the servers also.

I use Firefox, and open several tabs from different domains at one time which causes several hits in rapid succession, and I’m not along in this regard.
