Hi, I couldn’t find any information on this. What exactly is the voting scale for WebRep? For example, when it says a website has a rating based on a “limited number of votes” or a “small number of votes”, what does that mean? How many votes does it take to influence a website rating? If a website had no rating, and one or two users were to incorrectly or fraudulently rate a poor quality website as high quality or vice versa, would the rating be listed as such, or does the database wait for a significant number of votes before it assigns a rating?
That number obviously won’t be disclosed as it would be handy for anyone hoping to skew any result and I believe the figure is also variable.
Well, understandable, I should’ve expected that. I suppose I’m only really trying to figure out how reliable WebRep is. I understand it’s something of a work in progress and it’s a community effort, I also use WoT but I’m trying to use a variety of sources to assess websites for my work. While WoT seems more accurate I like using WebRep to cross reference as I get the impression that more common users have been able to vouch for a website when there is a positive WebRep rating. I understand that you cannot go into specifics, but I guess my only question is, what is the margin of error for websites with a “limited” or “small” good rating?
Well it is still relatively new and I would also say work in progress. But there are other things which are likely to be added in the future, such as input from the virus labs and possibly the avast CommunityIQ function. Part of that could well be cloud based so its future worth will be more than just reputation based as it is now to one that has security based information too.
There is nothing hard and fast about this nor are there any dates, so as you say work in progress.
