WebRep Showing Several Icons

Hello,

I know this has been mentioned somewhere else in the forums, but I could not find the thread after glancing around & using the search function, my eyes are bad; anyway if necessary a Moderator can move my post to that thread please.

WebRep shows several icons in the search results when I am using Google SSL Search in Firefox 4 and IE 9.

It was doing this even when Avast 6 was not installed, but the Firefox WebRep plug-in was still installed.

Disabling it and re-enabling did not fix the issue.

Installing Avast 6 again did not fix the issue.

It is not a major problem or anything, but I was wondering has anyone figured out what causes this and/or how to fix it?

I am currently using WOT, McAfee Site Advisor, and AVG LinkScanner; so those results are in my screenshots as well, but I had this problem even before I was using McAfee Site Advisor.

Thank you,
-John Jr

So am I the only person having this problem now?

Any solutions yet, just curious?

By the way, I am currently no longer using AVG LinkScanner, and I still have the problem.

Since you did not mention which avast version you are using, I would suggest trying the 6.0.1044 pre-release.

Thanks for commenting, I thought about using the Pre-Release, I often like trying Betas; but I had some annoying bugs in the Avast 6 Beta and now I am a bit cautious about trying Beta Anti-malware products, but I might try it, thank you for the suggestion.

I am using:

Avast 6.0.1000

Definitions 110406-0

Windows 7 Ultimate 32-Bit (Up-to-date)

Prevx Free

Secunia PSI

Norton DNS

Thank you,
-John Jr

I am currently using WOT, McAfee Site Advisor, and AVG LinkScanner...

…+ webrep 8) better safe than sorry I suppose ;D

+1 The pre release is very good  it might help to get rid of site adviser too as you have two many thing’s doing the same thing :o

Yep, I was too.

Now it is Avast WebShield, WOT, McAfee SiteAdvisor.

Okay, I will try it then, thank you.

I downloaded the Pre-Release, Installed it (Update), and restarted my computer; then I made sure that the database & program were up-to-date.

http://files.avast.com/files/beta/6.0.1044/setup_av_free.exe

I opened Firefox 4 and went to test WebRep, and I still had the problem. :frowning:

http://forum.avast.com/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=75537.0;attach=62593

Maybe I should uninstall Avast and then install the Pre-Release instead of Upgrading?

Avast 6.0.1044 Free
DB 110406-0

Thank you,
-John Jr

Yeah, maybe. May you could just uninstall and reinstall the WebRep addon in FF via the Avast GUI.

Thank you I just tried that, but it still did not work (And yes, I exited out of Both Browsers before doing it, and yes I Uninstalled them both from the Avast GUI and then Reinstalled them from the Avast GUI . ) . :frowning:

I have this problem in IE9 and Firefox 4 still, I run both in Private/InPrivate Mode.

Thank you,

I am just curious, is the Avast Team working on solving this issue?

I think part of the problem is you seem to be the only person with this issue - I just tried replicating your problem and am unable to.

Here’s what I see when using the webrep plugin on FireFox 4 using private mode and Google SSL:

http://f.cl.ly/items/3m1u0x0y2Z1g1i3P3J3V/Private.png

Have you tried disabling the other security plugins to see if the same problem occurs?

The only thing I can possibly think of is that somehow you have multiple versions of the WebRep plugin installed.
Have you checked this is not the case via the addons menu?

Brilliant BTCentral, why didn’t I think of that, thanks?

Only one version of WebRep was installed in IE9 and Firefox 4, so that was not the problem.

In IE9 disabling McAfee SiteAdvisor fixed the problem in IE9, so it seems that McAfee SiteAdvisor was conflicting with WebRep in IE9!

But in Firefox 4 that did not work, WOT was conflicting with WebRep, so disabling WOT in Firefox 4 fixed the problem!

This does not make much sense to me at all, so I find it interesting.

But I do want to still use WOT, so this Firefox 4 with WOT and WebRep issue will remain for now for me, hopefully someone with the Avast Team can help me make sense of this since IE9 and Firefox 4 seem to have two different conflicts in my case.

I do not care about McAfee SiteAdvisor, I was just testing it, but I do want to use WOT; fortunately this is not a huge problem, but it would be nice for the Avast Team to help me figure it out, since WOT is a very popular plugin and all.

Or maybe I am the only person in the Universe with this problem? (I am so lucky)

Good to hear you have it partially working. I’ll try installing the WOT plugin and see if I have the same issue, then report back.

Working here with WOT, no problem. Just as info. 8)

BTCentral, I think I know the problem, but I will need some help!

I could not replicate this Firefox 4 WebRep and WOT conflict on my laptop, so I think I know the problem!

Back when Avast 6 was still beta, I tried it and uninstalled it after having some problems, but WebRep did not Uninstall in Firefox.

I could Disable it in Firefox but not Uninstall it.

I continued to use it until the double icon problem started, so I Disabled it since I could not uninstall it.

Even after installing Firefox 4, and maybe even uninstalling Firefox before installing the new version, the WebRep plugin was still there; even though I was not using Avast 6.

Once I did go to use Avast 6 again now that it is no longer Beta, I thought this issue would be gone, but it was not; so I tried Uninstalling and Reinstalling the WebRep Plugin from the Avast GUI several times, which it said worked but the problem was still there.

So I think that somehow the WebRep from the Avast 6 Beta is still there and not Uninstalling or something, is there a way I can Manually Uninstall WebRep myself from Firefox 4; then I can install it again from the Avast 6 GUI?

I think it may just be a stubborn old version of WebRep that will not uninstall.

Ok, now I can confirm there is an issue.

It seems WebRep and WOT are definitely not compatible on Firefox 4.

http://f.cl.ly/items/3f2J251D0p310a3B2a2I/Bug.png

Note: This issue is not restricted to Secure Google, or using Private mode. I have the same issue in normal Firefox mode and on regular Google.

Edit: Having seen the above, my WebRep version is: avast! WebRep 20110101 - if yours is the same then that is the version being installed by the current non-beta version of avast.

Yay! Now I am not alone!

Now maybe the Avast Team will investigate this issue, I am curious to find out what the problem is, this is fun.

Thank you BTCentral, welcome to the WebRep Multiple Icon Club.
