WebRep XPI Questions

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 x64 - Avast Free 8.0.1483

On http://www.avast.com/en-us/index it is clearly noted via the lack of a check mark under the Free Antivirus column, “Blocks phishing scams” is not a feature of the free version.

However, under Settings > WebRep & Antiphising > PLUGIN SETTINGS there are the options to enable/disable WebRep and phishing filter.

I see in IE 10 that there are avast! WebRep entries under add-ons as well as the three green bars button which seems to work OK. This would indicate all went well when I installed Avast Free a few weeks ago.

But a Mozilla portable is my primary browser and there is no avast! extension shown in the Add-ons Manager.

I found (via google) and installed wrc@avast.com.xpi. The Add-ons Manager shows it is 6.0.1407 but there is no green bars button in any Toolbar nor is one available in “Customize…”

  1. Is 6.0.1407 the current version? If not, where might one download it?

  2. Given the presence of any WebRep extension, does the absence of the three green bars button indicate any dysfunction of WebRep and phishing filtering?

Thank you!

hey the latest version of avast is the one your using 8.0.1483 and a new version on the way but is still in beta. Will be named 8.0.1485 or something like that when it comes out from beta.

the absence of three green bars just means that the server is busy at the moment so nothing to worry about.

hope this answered your questions

Thank you mikaelrask. I’ll continue on with the v6.0.1407.

I wasn’t clear enough with my accounting of the “bars button” in that the button itself does not exist, green or otherwise. So question two can be resubmitted as:
2) Given the presence of a WebRep extension, does the non-existance of the “three bars button” indicate any dysfunction of WebRep and phishing filtering?

As well I’m thinking the Avast installer doesn’t recognize the portables, so…
1) Will the next version be available as an XPI for download?
Of course, we’d need a link for that.

Cheers!

hey again, your welcome

but why do you wanna run an old version of avast? when the version 8 is so much better?

your saying you don’t have the weprep extension in your browser are i’m right?

what browser are you using?

you could try a clean installation of avast.

every version of avast will be available for win xp

what you mean by avast doesn’t recognize portables?

Thanks for giving it a try, mikaelrask. I can’t explain it any better than I already have. Your refrain from any further postings in this thread will be greatly appreciated.

Anyone else, please?
