Browser…?
You can easily “turn it off” by clicking “Uninstall” in the Avast GUI → additional protection.
He doesn’t want to uninstall.
I know… but I think he/she isn’t aware of the fact, that install/uninstall for webrep is just a click in the GUI - which is essentially the same as turning it on/off.
Thinking about it, maybe the wording in the GUI should be changed to “Enable” and “Disable” to differentiate from the Avast install/uninstall program…

Could be true. ;D
Still it can also be disabled in the browser, if needed.
Hi
My browser is IE9. Just updated my sig.
Presumably you are also using the 64bit version of IE9 ?
If so I believe one of the avast team said it doesn’t work with that.
I use 32bit version of IE9 (because RoboForm doesn’t work in 64-bit version). Better amend my sig again!
OK, I don’t know if there is something about IE9 and protected zone that might have any impact on the webrep.
I have just checked on my win7 (32bit) netbook with IE9, I don’t use it as default, so I had to install it and it appeared to install correctly, image1 shows it needs to be enabled when I open IE9 32bit. I opened the forums and see the avast! WebRep icon (image2) albeit Grey, there are some issues with the webrep backend servers.
So is this what you are experiencing ?
Hi DavidR
Thanks for your reply. At the moment, my WebRep icon is showing green on this forum. At other times it’ll be grey, as you report, or there’ll be no icon showing against any search result.
I don’t want to risk uninstalling WebRep, then end up having to uninstall/ reinstall Avast to get it back.
I don’t know if there’s any “disable” function for webrep, but you could use IE No Addons mode (in start menu > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools) which would disable all add-ons. Alternatively, you could use InPrivate Browsing (Ctrl + Shift + P) which should disable all add-ons for that session.

Well my search results did have the avast webrep icon on the hits, but grey. In the past a search page refresh resolved that and I got the colourised icons back. But for now the problems with the backend servers is the most likely problem.
I have been using the avastUI, Additional Protection, WebRep to uninstall and install the WebRep in both firefox and IE (I normally don’t have it installed as I rarely use IE) and I have never had a problem with reinstalling with that option for either firefox or IE (8 or 9) on both my XP Pro or win7 netbook systems.
Hi DavidR
Thanks for your reply. Much appreciated.
You’re welcome.
