Webschield ZoneAlarm and Firefox

HI-- I just installed Zonealarm and I would like Webschield to work. I set up the LAN connection using the Avast Tutorial as a guide. Entered the “Localhost” and “1280” as instructed. And Firefox won’t connect to the internet. I removed the settings and I can connect just fine. But then I assume webschield is disabled. Note: I made the same setting in MS IE and it seems to be working but I don’t know how to test. Any help would be appreciated.

Check this link http://www.avast.com/eng/webshield_issues.html

avast! Web Shield compatibility dialogue - Install/Update Question - YES or NO

If you are using ZoneAlarm Free you should click NO, because privacy features are not present in ZoneAlarm Free this will not turn off webshield transparent mode proxy. Use a text editor and edit the avast4.ini file, the default installation location is C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\avast4.ini (I would advise you copy avast4.ini before editing it, just in case).
Locate the line containing ZoneAlarmCompatibility= and delete that line or, if you want to keep this line, set it to 0. Save the edited avast4.ini file.

If you are using ZoneAlarm Pro and Privacy Control in ZoneAlarm is set to High and if you click YES in avast comptability dialog box the transparent mode proxy in webshield will be turned off you have to manually configure browser to access internet. To manually configure your browser watch instructional video. In this case, the value ZoneAlarmCompatibility=1 should be at avast4.ini file.

Which is your operational system?
If you’re using XP, the scanning is transparent and you don’t have to change any setting (proxy)… ::slight_smile:

Yes my OS is XP. If I understand you correctly I should change nothing in the proxy settings??

That is right … avast takes care of it automatically for Windows XP users.

Yes. You don’t have (don’t need) to change any setting (proxy) on Windows XP.

I dont know if its a typing error ,but if you were not using XP and using something like 98 the port number should be 12080 (not 1280)
