Webshield affecting Firefox addons updating

Hi,

Having upgraded (clean install of Avast 7 as a over the top upgrade made the computer hang when trying to login into windows) The webshield stops firefox from updating it’s addons & also updating itself, have to close firefox & stop webshield then open firefox & check for updates.

Came back to Avast after using Avira for a few years & i have to say all the hassles with v7 (slow file copying in windows, avast standard shield scanning lots of files still not fully fixed in new version, messing up my google chrome install by installing the chrome that comes with Avast & the webshield that passes right through firewall rules.

IMO this software should still be in beta.

Banzi.

I have been using firefox from back at version 1.5 and avast for 8 years and the web shield from its inception years ago and I have never had a problem with firefox add-ons being used or checking for updates. I even run my copy of firefox under DropMyRights, adding another level of complexity and still no issues.

What other security software do you have installed, e.g. firewall and anti-spyware, etc. ?

How did you remove avira - Uninstall possible remnants of previously installed AVs see, http://singularlabs.com/uninstallers/security-software/, this has a collection of manufactures removal tools, so that should remove any remnants, registry, etc.

Hi,

This is on a clean install of Win7, had to do a clean install after Avast did a prog update to v7, PC would just stick on the login screen.

No other security soft installed other than Comodo Firewall.

The problem with addon updates is it would check for updates but the download progress bar didn’t move, had to close FF, stop the web shield then open FF & update addons, also did it when trying to update from FF 10.0.2 to FF 11.

Banzi.

The questions wasn’t only just about what security software installed as remnants of previous AV could also have an impact, which is why I gave the link to the collection of security application uninstallers, to ensure no remnants (process of elimination).

Other than that I don’t know why the updates aren’t working, as no problem here on FF 10.0.2 or now FF 11.0.

Just tested again and for me all appears to be working as it should, so I’m unsure what else to suggest.
