webshield keeps receiving traffic after closing firefox

Hi there,

We use Firfox to browse the web and regularly use the webinterface of AXIS camera’s to do some surveillance at specific sites.

Something strange we noticed last week was… While looking at a camera (with firefox, it uses motion jpeg) the traffic goes through the ashwebsv.exe (webshield) and onwards to the browser (pict1.jpg). Normally when we close the browser, the stream should get closed too, but it seems it stays open (pict2.jpg) but it doesn’t go anywhere offcourse

The only “solution” is to restart the webshield (or restart the pc), no firefox windows are open at the time this happens.

The same issue does not happen when we use Explorer to browse these cameras.

Could this beb a bug in firefox or webshield?

Are you sure the firefox.exe is not runnning, i noticed the other day that sometimes firefox.exe sometimes stays open when closing firefox, whether this is Avast or firefox problem i don’t know.

Does anybody know why this happens?
For me, from time to time, is the same: the process is running but firefox is closed… ::slight_smile:

I’ve seen the same on several systems. Only solution I have found sofar is completly remove fireFox (including the reg keys), reboot and reinstall.

This behaviour also happend on system where Avast was not installed.

Do you know how to safe the settings, extensions, themes, etc. without loosing everything each Firefox uninstall?
Even to update we need to do this… It’s a shame :-\

Have a look in documents & settings\user\application data\mozilla\firefox.
It seems that everything is stored there.
Don’t know what will happen if you back that up and place it back after the reinstall.
Worth to give it a try I would say.

I have assured that the firefox process is ‘not’ running after closing firefox, but still the issue remains. (to give an example, we noticed this after an increased bandwidth usage to a VPN client, it seemed the client had been viewing some camera’s and had closed firefox, but it kept streaming to the client… :o )

We have tested this on multiple clients with the most recent firefox. (about 6 clients, all XP , some with sp2, some sp1)

This should be fixed in 4.6.612.
