Webshield "ON" Blocks All Internet Connectivity, Including Avast's Connectivity

Hello,
Webshield blocks everything when turned “ON”.
It blocks Firefox, IE, Chrome, Google Earth, FTP and Avast’s own ability to display web material to explain the various pages of a smart scan.
Turn Webshield “OFF” and everything functions correctly.
Can anyone tell me how to troubleshoot this?

Check your firewall and make sure it’s allowed.

Generally when all internet connections are blocked - it is more likely that it is something blocking avast - that as bob3160 implies, this is most likely your firewall.

What avast version are you using, free/pro/AIS/Premier (include build/version number 2016 11.1.1.2253) ?
What OS do you have and what is your firewall ?
Have you just installed avast ?

Avast Free, updated to version 11.1.2253 yesterday.
WinXP x64 16GB Ram.
Windows firewall.
Yes, I safe-mode Avastcleared and reinstalled Avast two days ago trying to fix this issue.
I have had the issue for at least 6 months and am finally fed up enough to try to do something about it.
Occasionally, during updates, webshield get turned back “ON” which destroys the next internet maneuver, forcing me to remember why the internet failed.
Sometimes I forget about the broken webshield and waste time checking router, other machines, etc… before I kick myself saying its that blankity blank Avast.

There is no outbound firewall protection in Windows Firewall in Windows XP.
What other security programs are you running ??? It isn’t the webshield that’s the problem.
The problem is that something on your system is blocking the Webshield from using the internet.

Have you tried turning the HTTPS scanning off within the Web Shield settings ?

The reason I say this is that win XP Pro 64bit only goes to SP2 (not SP3, as with the 32bit version of XP). This is I believe because it is based on windows 2003.

Avast has some checking to see if the system is compatible, as as far as I can tell it is pretty dumb in just looking at the SP (not 64bit/32bit version). So it looks like something gets dropped or doesn’t work in XP SP2.
