When web shield is enabled I can’t go to any sites in chrome, www.google.com just hangs with contacting google.com, firefox can sort of limpingly load news.google.com after a few minutes.
disable web shield and they both work fine.
avast updated something I think and this behavior started so I updated the program to 2014.9.0.2008 but the problem remains exactly the same.
I don’t use IE, launched it to check and there are 4 entries for avast that all show as disabled first time I checked.
Also I have the avast plugin for firefox disabled
so, nothing has changed and behavior is as it was which is disfunctional.
I have the same problem. In my case it has NOTHING to do with any 3rd party apps, the only internet security program i have installed (other than windows defender and windows firewall which are not enabled) is Avast Internet Security.
Once I upgraded to 2014, all web traffic is being blocked. When I try to access a website on my browser (any browser, IE, Chrome, Firefox, etc) it just hangs like the person who posted this thread says. Also, any programs that try to access the internet can’t get a connection either. I’m also unable to even access my router admin page. Once I disable Avast shields, then everything works normally.
I uninstalled and downloaded and did a clean install of 2014 and it still doesn’t work. I’ve uninstalled again and installed an old version 7.0.1456 that I have an install file for. 7.0.1456 works perfect, no issues, so it’s only 2014 that broke something.
What do we do to get Avast to recognize this as a bug and fix it? 2014 is completely unusable for me as what sense is having the software if you have to disable it in order to access the internet?
I use windows firewall and sphinx ‘windows 8 firewall control’ to control it’s settings. I have tried enable all mode in sphinx and I’ve tried disabling windows firewall, neither helped.
I would maintain the old version until someone can determine what is causing this, in all probability it is a conflict somewhere as I am experiencing no problems. So it would depend on what other network related programmes you have
I have the same problem. The only other internet security software I have is some anti-malware programs (Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and EMSIsoft Anti-Malware). I am using Avast Internet Security on a Win 7 ult computer.
I was having this problem with a 2014.9.0.2006 version of Avast but updated to the 2014.9.0.2008 yesterday. It worked wonderfully until the problem returned today. I have changed nothing on the computer since updating Avast other than turning on and off my computer. Windows did not run any updates since before i went to the .2006 version.
