Webshield slows down browsing

Whenever webshield is active I have noticed webpages load at only half the speed they are supposed to.
It is most noticeable when viewing flash animations. If webshield is active or paused, the flash animations will take twice as long to download. But if it is fully disabled the animations download a lot faster.

Is this normal?
or is my pc too slow?

Pentium 4 1.7 ghz
512MB RAM
Windows XP SP2

My connection is 2.2 Mbps ADSL

Thanks
Lee

A little slowdown is normal because avast is scanning the web traffic.
You can disable Web Shield or, better, addind some ‘safe’ sites you use more to the exception list.
I don’t think it’s a problem of your computer.

Adding safe sites or pausing the provider doesn’t help.I’ve already tried that.

The only way to get the speed back to normal is to actually shut down the webshield provider.

So, set the Standard Shield to ‘High’ sensibility.
Do you use a proxy filter?

No, I do not use a proxy

Welcome to 2005! Where Antivirus protection is a prerequisite. Damn it sucks, doesn’t it!?

Got an Athlon XP 1600, and the speed is AMAZING when I disable Avast and view web pages, or even check email. I get about a 40-50% hit in speed when Avast is activated!

Damn I wish I could use my computer and surf the Internet WITHOUT antivirus protection!! It’s so damn snappy!! But viruses nowadays require you to use Anti Virus software.

Wouldn’t it be great if Antivirus checks were done on a hardware level!?!? Talk about no-lag!!
