Website suddenly downloaded file.

Hi,

I went to this website:
http:// www. popsci.com/science/article/2013-08/how-argue-someone-who-smirkily-says-pandas-deserve-die

It then downloaded a file simply called “$” and it’s 1 kB big.
Google chrome said that it came from:
http:// tu9srvbirvvtmtqkchvibwf0awmtbwf0y2guzg90b21plmnvbq00.g00.popsci. com/

but I don’t think thats the entire link. Chrome doesn’t really show the ending.

I hope you guys can explain what this file is and if it is dangerous.

Thanks

Break the links so that no-one can click on them.

You can upload and test file(s) here virustotal.com / metadefender.com / jotti.org

I just did a real quick check.
Guess what…
That site is using over 175(!) cookies just by visiting one page.

They do not mention it anywhere and are therefor violating the European rules/laws for it (and likely from more areas’s/countries).

I didn’t visit. It is an American publication.

Thanks everyone for replying.
Looks like it is an innocent file, but you can never be too careful.
