Weird Internet Explorer happenings

When I reboot or sometimes intermittantly my browser , on its own, attempts to visit a weird website that requires logging in - any idea what this could be or how I can prevent it? Thanks

To get rid from it, make a boot scanning with avast and scan with ad-aware and Spybot.
To prevent, use SpyWareBlaster (and its resident called TeaTimer).

Click on the link in my signature and follow the instructions on that webpage. Let’s start with cleaning your system from malware.

Thanks, tried all of that and more including Crap Cleaner and A Squared. My PC is free from all viruses and runs great except for this little nuisance.

I’ve heard it may be a file in Start Up that I need to remove but it also happens occasionally during the day when the PC has been idle for a while.

Have you checked with HijackThis? If not I suggest you do so. Through the page in my signature you can get a HJT log analyzer which comes with the latest hjt version. There is also a link to a online analyzer.

This is a browser hijack and the best tool for identifying and dealing with them is HiJackThis as Eddy said.

Visit his site, download the program and either use his analyser or use an on-line hijackthis/log scanner.

I just copied and pasted my hijackthis notepad file in Eddy’s analyzer and it seemed to work but where do I find the results?

I also browsed and analyzed the results saved in Notepad but got an error message - 100KB files only. Thanks.

My analyzer creates a file called result.log. It is a plain text file so you can view it with notepad, word etc.

Thanks Edddy, where do I find result.log?

In the same folder as where you installed my analyzer.

As explained in the readme.txt

Thanks again, I’m not too bright - should I automatically have HijackThis fix all the files that are nasty and unknown?

Yes fix the bad ones.

For the unknown ones you have to check first if they are harmfull or not.
