Resolved itself? It was solved (or at least workaround) by very helpful DavidR.
Also bear in mind, mchain, that this issue is actually a bug in Avast… according Avast staff member (source: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=103118.msg826322#msg826322).
I have been getting the Chrome pop-ups too and I have never had Chrome installed. Also, the tip to tell Avast not to use Chrome by default did not help. It’s annoying but not too big of a deal. Maybe Avast will eventually fix it so us non Chrome users won’t get offered tips for Chrome.
I have been getting this same popup concerning the google chrome tip but chrome is not installed. How do I fix this?

Thanks, I changed the options and will see if it helps. After checking the option to not use Chrome I have the following in avast5.ini.

I had the computer on all night. In the morning I right clicked the avast icon and selected show last popup message. Is was the update popup and it not longer had the Google tip button. Hopefully your suggestion has fixed the problem. I will keep an eye on it. Thanks again for the help.
I do use Chrome, but have never seen the pop up! Good thing I know how to use it and don’t need any tips.
