Weird stuff

When I update Avast it also shows this:

What is that about? Has thepiratebay.org “hacked” Avast?!

http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=48004

Bellzemos, don’t worry. The false positive of avast has already been acknowledged and will be fixed in the next virus definitions update.

It seems fixed now (after the update), but what was it all about? Why was name “thepiratebay.org” written in the update box? What file was submitted? And where to? Please explain.

Its was a false positive they did correct it now.

Mr.Agent

Yes, thank you, but that doesn’t answer my questions. I’ve never seen Avast putting some website’s name in the update box before. And nevem seen submitting it anywhere.

Another thing I noticed (and I don’t think is’s a coincidence): while I had the last VPS version (090825-0) my internet connection was much slower. When I updated to VPS 090825-1 it got back to normal.

That really strange… But if piratebay appear in their update maybe its mean its what they did update right ?

Mr.Agent

Haven’t you check for sending statistics?

Coincidence.

I’m sorry, where can I check that?

OK.

Virus alert… I don’t have avast 4 anymore, so I can’t post a screenshot. Maybe David could help.

I can

Since it is a site, it is the webshield pic I have added. Tech, I presume you are talking about the tick box at the bottom?
(allow sending anonymous statistical…)

or

Yes. Thanks Scott.

I went to EICAR site and tried to download eicar.com as you, Scott, and here’s what came up:

http://www.shrani.si/f/2p/yo/4T2uezWX/viral.jpg

So yes, my box has a tick in it and of course I want to help Avast team with finding bad sites and malware.

By the way, I can’t get infected in any way with that EICAR test-virus, right?

And when I tried to go to thepiratebay.org I didn’t get any warning from Avast, the site just didn’t load. So I still don’t understand the screen-shot in posted in my first post.

Thank you all for help!

No problem Tech

@Bellzemos,

No, you can’t get infected from the eicer.org test file. It is a file that is used to test that the AV is working correctly…
(more reading can be found on the site you found the download…)

I presume that the sending of the info was related to the thread posted in the 1st reply…and the detection concerned there…
