Weird update?

Today early morning I manually updated my avast free home edition ( I always update manually) to 090921-0 VPS. Later in the afternoon I manually checked again to see if there is a new VPS and avast downloaded huge (20mb I think) VPS update, usually updates are lot smaller. Anyway the weird thing that now my virus database seems to switched back to yesterday’s 090920-0 and if I try to update I get the message that Avast is up to date with 090921-0 VPS.

Anyone know if this is normal?

How are you doing this ?

The VPS updates are incremental and for an up to date system would be measured in KBs rather than MBs.

That sounds like the size of the full VPS file and not an update from http://www.avast.com/eng/updates.html at a little over 28MB, see image.

I opened avast and clicked on “Update Virus Database” (Vista skin) and it downloaded around 20 000 000 bytes file as I said. I knew it was weird when I saw how big the file is but I thought that maybe it had some Avast update or that it had something to do with Avast 5. Anyway I’ll see how updating goes when a new update is realeased.

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).

ZedDJ, send me file setup.log from avast4\setup folder (possibly compressed to my email).
Do you connect to internet through a proxy server, or do you use some internet caching software?

Forejt, I’ve sent you setup.log. I don’t use proxy servers and I don’t use internet caching software.
