Yes. I however choose to use actual AV from another vendor (oh the herecy!) and use various other tools to complement it. I was hoping for avast! ARK, as the info given months ago is that there was supposed to be a standalone tool.
It would seem the standalone ARK is vaporware? Judging by the lack of any mention of it anywhere. Kinda shame actually, I never considered ALWIL as such a company … ah well
Avast Home Edition contains a Root kit scanner that it is run at every system startup (unless specifically disabled in the Program Settings Troubleshooting menu)
I have assumed that from time to time its detection signatures would be updated, possibly as part of the normal iAVS updates, or at least each time the program itself is updated.
So for present users of Avast, what would be the benefit of also having a free standing rootkit scanner?
Well I for one am not avast! user So for me and probably to others too it would be beneficial to have such a fine tool as it was (meaning the beta). And there was a beta for standalone version.
And in response to others: yes, I am aware of other tools. However, only Panda and F-Secure stand in the same line as did the beta standalone tool when it comes to usability (aka “can I ask a mundane friend of mine to run it …”)
However, I believe that since the antirootkit function has been absorbed into the main avast antivirus product the avast team is devoting its main efforts to the development of avast release 5 and that the standalone does not have a high priority.
