What Actions Should I Take

Any Ideas?

SCAN / ACTIONS

Use the following controls to specify what actions to take when a virus or potentially unwanted program or suspicious file is detected.

What should I have checked for Virus, PUP, and Suspicious (?)

*There’s three levels for each not sure what to do here-

Any ideas?

Set the actions to what you prefer that avast should do.

Generally if you don’t know what actions to take it is best to leave those settings on the default options.

Personally I like to retain complete control over my systems so set mine to Ask as the first action and No Action - not if you choose Ask as the first option, you only get two options not three.

Me, I go with “repair” then “move to chest” then “no action”.
Others stick with “fix automatically”. You could ask this to every
forum member and will get different answers. Go with what you are
comfortable doing.

Repair and Fix automatically are virtually rarities where they will actually do anything (e.g. succeed).

Repair generally relates to true virus infection (the removal of the inject virus in a file) and that also relies on avast having a repair routine for that particular virus. So the chances of this happening I believe are slim.

Fix Automatically - I have yet to understand what this option actually does, e.g. what can it fix and how does it go about it. I don’t know how Fix Automatically relates to malware detections.

Neither do I. That is why when a user selects “repair” avast advises “move to chest” or some other action.
As far as “fix automatically” goes I was going by what I’ve read on the forums. I’m not too keen on the
“delete” option. As long as it’s in the chest one can always re-scan at a later date.

We just had another earthquake here. Felt like a 4.0 on the Richter Scale.
I’ll check it out as soon as they post it.
Most have been less than 3.5. My dog jumped just before it shook the house.

somone from avast said, if i remeber correct: Fix Automatically = repair (clean) > quarantine > delete

here it is https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=149800.msg1088762#msg1088762

Thanks for finding the post.

It makes even less sense as to its worth, essentially it is the same as manually setting option 1 to Repair, option 2 to move to chest option 3 to delete.

Delete is an option that I wouldn’t allow to happen under any circumstances, especially automatically. Delete in haste repent at leisure.
