What are exactly .vbs format viruses n why do they usually attack my pendrives or any other form of removable media? They render it useless and you have to reformat it…
pls tell me how to prevent these type of malware
Well, the .vbs file type is a Visual Basic Script. They probably attack your pendrives so that they will infect them, and if used on another computer, will infect them too.
Using Avast and http://malwarebytes.org should be able to remove the infections.
You could try this program to help scan USB devices on insertion:
To do something you usually need a script to be run, .vbs is a Visual Basic Script file and it is this that does the work but you need an autorun.inf file to do the call to the .vbs file.
There are tools to use that can clean (and help prevent future usb infection) rather than have to format the USB.

Hi pranaysharma94,
There is another solution for those that do not use VBS for other purposes.
A good way to protect yourself against VBS viruses is to prevent them from running. To do this, use notepad to create an empty file and name it ‘something.vbs’. Then right click on it while holding down the shift key, select ‘open with’, select ‘notepad’ to open it, select ‘always use this program to open this type of file’ and click ‘ok’. Now if you do get a VBS virus, instead of inserting itself in your system, it will be innocently opened by notepad and not cause any problem,
