I’m a Programmer. I’ve been doing this since 1997. Over the years, I have installed Avast! many times to protect my users. I’m not in the PC Tech business anymore so I started to depend on Avast! to protect my users. Now, I’m getting calls about advertising from the tray and it has made my life more complicated. I simply don’t have time to install this product and test every scenario to make sure they don’t receive notifications that will scare them. Bad move Avast! because I’m simply removing my part from that aspect and it’s going to cost you customers. They have always purchased your product at my recommendation. It’s like, … Management and Programmers gone wild! What were you thinking? I’m just disappointed and will have to move on. No need to respond.
Oh gosh! I didn’t think about adding this and it’s now an afterthought. Haha, whenever I installed Avast!, I always made sure your notification about the Virus Database was heard and I would say “You’re Protected!”.
Finally, I would point them to your spinning tray icon and say, “See, your computer is being scanned right now and monitored for any potential real time threats.”
We all know it’s not as simple as this, but for most people this is true. (I kind of smile sheepishly to those porn users who we all know would somehow break the system and never call us again because, well…there’s only so much you can do about that…:))
So, as I’m restoring my PC, I can deal with this, but I just can’t spend the time educating my user overlords about this. Turn your scareware notifications off and send them an email. It’s so much easier to respond to them in an email rather than a frantic call while you are working.
That’s my criticism and solution to the problem.
Regards!
What scareware? If you mean a pop-up which states something to the effect that a Malware/Trojan has been blocked, I would consider
the pop-up proving my laptop is protected.
The user has the ability to limit the duration of a pop-up to as little as one or two seconds.
GUI>Settings>Pop-ups 8)
A screenshot would be nice.
