I hope someone can help me with my question. What do I do if virus vault is full? When I run avast to check for viruses and it finds one, then it tells me to move it to the chest. I do that then it says it is full. I only have a choice of deleteing the new virus it found. Is that ok? As far as the ones in my vault what do I do with them? I need more room for the new ones it finds. Hope this make sense to you. Please help.
It isn’t full as such but if you want to add something that would exceed the default settings you need to edit those settings.
Program Settings (right click the avast ‘a’ icon), Chest, from here you can adjust the size of the chest and max file size, etc.
A bit of housekeeping might be in order:
There is no rush to delete anything from the chest, a protected area where it can do no harm. Anything that you send to the chest you should leave there for a few weeks, I assume many will be older). If after that time you have suffered no adverse effects from moving these to the chest, scan them again (inside the chest) and if they are still detected as viruses, delete them. You should only be looking at the Infected Files section of the chest.
Deletion isn’t really a good first option (you have none left), ‘first do no harm’ don’t delete, send virus to the chest and investigate.
I cant send it to the chest to investigate because it tells me that it is full. So now I will do what you told me to do and change the settings for the chest. Ok when I went in there it told me the maximum size of chest was 256mb and the max size of file sent was 1024mb. What is a good size other than the one listed to put the chest at? Can I put it to (0 means no limit?)
You problem is less likely to be the overall size (I have mine set to 512MB, I don’t like unlimited anything), but the file size of what you want to send to the chest being larger than 1024KB (1MB), mine is set to 2048KB (2MB). So you have to set it to a size that would allow that file to be sent.
You could also do the housekeeping that I mentioned if you have a lot of files in the Infected Files section of the Chest.
Ok excuse me if I sound stupid, but what do you mean by housekeeping?
Clean, empty the infected files from Chest from time to time (two weeks).
