c..…Bob@advertising[2].txt unable to scan
C.\Documents and Settings.…sb Recovery.ini
C..…Sue@served by.advertising [2].txt
etc… this goes on with similar file names for 275 files.
The actions I can take are delete, move, chest, scan.
It all looks like advertising to me. I just can’t figure out where the list comes from, when I have just finished running Ad-aware and Spybot. they are supposed to take care of all the spyware.
This is about all I can tell you.
What am I supposed to do here? Just delete the files?
please post the full path/foldernames… → try expanding the column-width in avast report windows…
then you’ll probably see that most of these are restore/backup-files from SPYBOT’s cleaning actions (cause I doubt that avast detects cookies…)
→ the files are encrypted, so no AV can scan them… and potential malware inside them is INACTIVE
This is normal and no reason to worry, you can delete these items from Spybot’s backup/restore/quarantine-panel, if you feel that your PC still runs well after the Spybot Cleaning.
for further details: lots of topics on this available via the board-search…
Re: deleting cookies etc., I use CleanUp! I am assuming that totally deletes all the temp files, cookies etc. If you know of a more efficient way to clean the entire computer of “stuff” I don’t need … I’d love to hear about it. I find CleanUp! seems to do a better job than just doing it through options while on the net.
Your explanation does make sense. I’ll follow through and see what happens.
I never saw a application that cleaned everything. Personally I always do it manually. You can do so too. Learn/find out in what folders temporary files are stored. Think of internet files, cookies, but also .tmp and temp files, temporary cache etc etc.
HERE is a vb file that cleans the leftovers from the hotfixes installs on NT (nt/2k/2k3/xp) systems. Unpack the file in a folder of your choice and double click it. Depending on how much needs to be removed, it can take from a couple of seconds to about 2 minutes. When finished you get a overview of what was removed. It does NOT remove the hotfixes theirselfs.
Sure enough, soon as I opened up those columns I discovered all sorts of info! Live and learn huh?
Looks like it is pretty much all Spybot stuff.
I guess I can just delete it all huh? What about the few at the bottom that I don’t recognize? If my machine has been working after using Spybot … can I assume they can be deleted too?
If your machine runs well after a spybot-Cleaning followed by reboot, then you can delete the spybot-stuff (especially the older stuff), but I’d advise doing it from within Spybot
if you don’t know what the other stuff is, you shouldn’t really delete it without further analysis → not all stuff that is UNscannable (because encrypted or locked) is also UNnecessary !
if you really want to dig deeper into it,
cleanup your WIN (empty IE-Cache=Temp.Int.Files & Temp-folders etc…), remove the (older )spybot -updates, and then report what is left
or use board-search here…
hello,
I have just downloaded Avast home edition. I am having a problem that I think is related to the post above that I found while doing a search.
After I run a scan I have approx 136 files that cannot be scanned. The path for most of them is: C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Recovery. They are zip files. I assume they cannot be scanned because they are incrypted. Is this so? If it is would it be a good idea to place this path into the excludes area since this is where spybot is going to continue to place these type of files, or not? Thank you
The short answer is yes they are protected by S&D. They are likely to be the restore information for stuff that S&D removed in its scans, if you are sure they were bad (wait a short time and if no problems), you can clear them from S&D.
A search of these forums for ‘Spybot - Search & Destroy’ will return many hit as this has been a much discussed topic.
Hello,
I understand that these files are protected. My question now is that I went to the excludes section under “settings” and entered spybot , then I ran a quick scan with archives checked, and I still get the 134 files. If I have spybot excluded from the scan , why are these files still showing up?
(ps. I will delete them later, I just want to set up Avast so that I don’t have to see that page of files that couldn’t be scanned in the future.)
anyone wanting the deepest of deep cleaners i reccomend this one .www.ccleaner.com does everything but wipe the screen . be careful though, it makes no backups so once it wipes, its gone ;D
