Avast has found a virus or malware trying to intrude and Avast blocks it.
So, Avast notifies the user of the PC. There is an “exclude” button for the user to click.
The term “exclude” means:
Telling Avast to block all the intruders but EXCLUDE THIS ONE, not block this one.
Telling Avast to EXCLUDE the virus from the PC, to expel the virus from the PC.
Question:
What does the the “exclude” button mean in Avast’s notification?
As you have said, the EXCLUDE button means to EXCLUDE the malicious intruder, might be a virus or Trojan, what should the user do when such a notification pops up?
Vicky when the box pops up avast has already taken action based on what your settings are. To adjust those actions go into:
settings > active protection > select which shield to customize (File, Mail, Web) > actions
If you don’t want avast to flag the file any longer select exclude when the pop up occurs or manually add it to exclusions:
settings > active protection > select which shield to customize (File, Mail, Web) > exclusions
To make it clear - when it offers you the option to exclude the file, folder or whatever it is that has been blocked it means, or should mean, that AVAST will no longer treat it as potentially malicious. In other words it will, or should be, added it to the exclusion list so when AVAST scans it the warning pop-up will, or should not, appear.
The problem with using the word exclude in this case is that it could cause just the sort of confusion the OP describes. It could be understood to mean either the “intruder” is, has been or will be excluded ie. blocked or, alternatively that you’re being given the choice to exclude it from future AVAST scans so the warning message doesn’t recur. In this case, as dprout69 explained, it is the latter.
Using a less ambiguous term would be one solution or, better, simply provide a fuller description in the pop-up of what has been or will be done and what options, if any, there are. That way there is much less chance of confusion.
I thought that would have been obvious i.e that it is exluding the action not just that it just stops the pop-up. But worth mentioning this in case the OP wasn’t certain exactly what was meant.
