What does "FILTER" in Application Rules Do?

Hi

There is a “Filter” with a blank field and a box to check on or off at the top of the Application Rules page in the Firewall. What does this do?

What is Filter? And what is supposed to go in the blank field? I searched the HELP for the Firewall but found no mention of this mysterious “Filter” check box.

I have had it checked, but just unchecked it when I was in the Application rules just now.

Thank you.

Just a guess as I don’t use the AIS version, but your application rules are grouped into different levels, presumably entering one of these levels into the blank field will filter the results to only show those in that level.

I would leave it checked, as that is the default setting. I use AIS, and I take that filter button to mean that the applications listed below the button will be filtered at the set levels.

Thank you DavidR… yes I’ve read that HELP page a few times, no mention of FILTER

Interesting thought DBone …however if this is so WHY is there no mention of FILTER anywhere in the HELP?

I’m wondering if it might be more of a “filter sort” type of thing like DavidR says.

And guess what… the FILTER thing is EERIE. I unchecked closed Avast interface and just opened it now to see if my Applications were listed differently or organized differently without the FILTER checked. An guess what. Avast! checked the FILTER again. :frowning:

I’d REALLY like to know what it does and why it is persistently checked. I’ll try Unchecking again and see if Avast! lets it stay.

Thanks…

You enter text in the blank field to filter the groups by name. It lets the user find rules for applications faster/more easily. It’s just for convenience.

Makes sense!
